NEW THIS YEAR! Three new conference presentation features:
1. Poster sessions:
A poster session is available this year. Posters will be on display Sunday through Tuesday and, if requested on the Presenters' form, a 30-minute discussion time will be scheduled for Monday or Tuesday during the Concurrent Sessions time slots. Easels or wall space will be provided and purchase of foamcore and other supplies can be arranged in advance to save on transportation difficulties.
Please take advantage of the Poster Session to fulfill your presentation requirements. If you are planning a short talk, you are particularly encouraged to take advantage of scheduling a poster discussion session.
2. Research In Action:
Also new this year is a presentation track for active research scientists. Science is the pursuit of new knowledge, not just memorizing dry facts. It is crucial that teachers can bring a feeling for current work and a sense of active exploration back to the classroom. Please share your marine/aquatic related work and your perspectives with our classroom teachers.
Abstracts will be printed in our
proceedings. If your abstract is too long for the description entry
field in the following form, please email it to the Concurrent Sessions Chairperson.
If you have already registered for Research in Action, extended
research versions of the abstracts will still be accepted by email.
3. Ocean Literacy: An Ocean Oriented Approach to Teaching Science Standards.
This year we are adding the opportunity to show how your presentation fulfills science teaching standards for K-12. Please make your presentation more valuable to your audience by letting us know what goal your are helping them address. For detailed information, please visit http://www.coexploration.org/oceanliteracy and download the brochure and find out the National Science Education Standards addressed by the following seven essential principles.
The Seven Essential Principles: (A
required choice.)
| 1 | The earth has one big ocean with many features. |
| 2 | The ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of the earth. |
| 3 | The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate. |
| 4 | The ocean makes Earth habitable. |
| 5 | The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems. |
| 6 | The ocean and humans are interconnected. |
| 7 | The ocean is largely unexplored. |
