Thank you for showing an interest in exhibiting at the
2006 NMEA conference! We’re
sure this will be a worthwhile experience!
Simply click on the exhibitor’s registration form link to read
specific prices and registration information.
This year, we are proud to be exhibiting in Long Island University’s elaborately adorned gymnasium. This unique venue is the former Paramount theater, site of many early rock and pop music concerts!
Exhibits will be on display for the exhibit period listed on the schedule, of course, but this year, exhibitors will also be able to leave their wares on display during some of the events that will actually take place in the gym. This will allow conference-goers to really get a good look at what you have to offer. We hope everyone will enjoy being able to see all of the exhibits at their own pace in a relaxed atmosphere.
Please feel free to email us if you have any specific questions that arise as you read over the registration form. We hope that you are looking forward to exhibiting in the Big Apple as much as we are looking forward to having you here!
After June 16th you will be listed on an insert to the program.

The Brooklyn Campus is the urban center of Long Island University, the eighth largest, private, multi-campus University in the nation. Founded in 1926, this urban oasis occupies 11 acres of shaded courtyards, state-of-the-art facilities and historic buildings in the heart of a rejuvenated downtown Brooklyn. One of the fastest-growing institutions of higher learning in the New York metropolitan area, the Brooklyn Campus offers nearly 11,000 students in more than 110 undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. Its cultural diversity, innovative academic programs, sports teams, and landscaped campus make the Brooklyn Campus a model of urban education.
Campus Map: Details
Many of Brooklyn's richest cultural and
historic attractions are easily accessible from the campus, including the
Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Botanical
Garden, the Public Library and the Brooklyn Children's Museum. The
Fulton Shopping Mall, many restaurants and fast food establishments, the Metro
Tech Center, several banks and the Brooklyn Hospital are located in close
proximity to the campus.
Manhattan is only a short subway ride away. Most subway lines stop near
the campus. A Greyhound Bus Station and a Long Island Rail Road station
are within walking distance. Bus service (public transportation) to all
areas of Brooklyn and Queens is also available.
The downtown Brooklyn area is home to Borough Hall and a very extensive legal
community, including the Municipal Building, federal and state court buildings
and the Brooklyn Law School. Several institutions of higher education
are also located in the downtown Brooklyn area. They include:
Polytechnic University, Pratt Institute, New York Technical College, St.
Francis College, The Institute of Design, and St. Joseph's College.
Accommodations:
1.
Long Island University (LIU) Dormitory Rooms (in Conolly Residence Hall)
These
rooms are very spartan! The dorm is air-conditioned, though.
The campus at LIU is arranged around a central plaza, and every venue (Kumble
Theater, Paramount Theater, Luntey Commons, classrooms, etc.) can be reached
by walking for 5 minutes or less. Charges
are based on a six-night stay, from Sunday, July 16 to Saturday, July 22 (no
discounts for early departures). There
is a phone jack in each room, so you will probably be able to plug in your
laptop’s modem to access the internet from your dorm room.
a.
Standard Doubles (located
on floors 10-16)
These
rooms are the best bargain! The price is $150
per person for six nights, and this includes linen. Due to limited space, we are unable to offer single-occupancy
rooms in the dorm.
Each floor can accommodate 38 people living in standard doubles. These doubles all share one bathroom per floor (3 toilet
stalls, 4 showers per bathroom). Two
hundred sixty-six people can be housed in doubles.
b. Double and Quad Suites
Floors
3-5 have suites. Each suite has
its own bathroom.
There
are 12 4-person suites. The charge is $175 per person for six nights in a quad suite.
There
are 27 2-person suites. The charge is $200 per person for six nights in a double
suite. Couples wishing to share a
room need to reserve one of these double suites.
For
both the standard doubles and the suites, you may indicate your roommate(s)
preference(s) on the registration form, or let us assign you people to room
with.
Extra Days
Since
some people will need to arrive on Friday, July 14 or Saturday, July 15 for
pre-conference meetings, LIU will welcome conference registrants to stay in
the dorm for one or two extra nights beyond the six-night package.
(You also have the option of adding on Saturday, July 22.)
There will be an extra charge of $35 per person per night in the
standard doubles, and $45 per person per night in the suites.
When you understand all of the above material - continue to the link below. Note that Conference Registration must be completed separately. (See link at left.)
2.
Marriott Hotel
We
have reserved a block of rooms at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge
Hotel, which is a 10-minute walk from the LIU campus.
This is a lovely hotel, with a good restaurant and a swimming pool
available for guest use. Internet
access is available in the rooms at the rate of $14.95 per day.
The regular rate for a room is $279 a night (single or double
occupancy). The discounted
rate for us is
Single
or double occupancy $225
per night ($113
per person if a double)
Triple
occupancy:
$255 per night
($85 per person)
Quad
occupancy:
$285 per night
($71 per person)
Thirty
rooms are being held for Sunday night, July 16 – Thursday night, July 20
(check-out on Friday, July 21). Five
rooms are being held for Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15, to accommodate
people attending pre-conference meetings, and ten rooms are being held for
Friday, July 21, for those people wishing to prolong their stay in New York
City.
To
reserve a room at the Marriott, please call 888-436-3759 or 718-246-7000, and
say you’re with the National Marine Educators Association.
If you’re planning to use the room as a triple or a quad, you must
make your own roommate arrangements ahead of time.
You must reserve your room by June 23 to receive the discounted rate. Once these blocked rooms are all taken, you may still make a
reservation at the Marriott (if space is available), but the charge will be
the regular $279 per night.
3. Find
Your Own Hotel
You might be interested in making your own hotel
reservation, perhaps in Manhattan. LIU
is easily accessible from most major subways.
The closest trains are:
4 or 5 trains (Lexington
Avenue Line) or the 2 or 3 trains (Seventh Avenue Line) to Nevins Street
Station. B, M, Q, or R trains to DeKalb Avenue Station.
These stations are about a 2-minute walk to the LIU campus.
A bit less convenient are the A, C, or G trains (Eighth Avenue Line) to
Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street Station. Plan
to walk about 10 minutes from this station to the LIU campus.

each day. To order the meal plan go to: L.I.U.
Meal Plan Section B
If you choose to drive to the NMEA 2006
conference, you will need to pay to park your car in Brooklyn. Residents
at the Marriott Hotel may park in the hotel's garage at the rate of $13 per
day on weekends and $18 per day on weekdays.
If you are staying in the LIU dorm or the Marriott, you can park across the
street from the University, at the Park & Lock garage, adjacent to Toys R
Us, on Flatbush Ave. at Willoughby St. The day rate is $12 per weekday
($11 if you enter before 9 AM), and $8 per weekend day. The weekly rate
can be computed as follows: If, for instance, you are arriving on Sunday, July
16 and departing on Friday evening, July 21, you would pay $8 for the Sunday
night and $11 per day for 5 days. The total cost would be $63. If
you have further questions about the Park & Lock garage, you may call them
at 718-624-9475.
We encourage you to apply to make a presentation at this years conference. Please note that spots are limited. Only poster sessions are still available.
After June 10th you will be listed on an insert to the program.
Please note that all presenters must be signed up for at least that day of the conference. Note that the day rate will be a minimum of $120 for members and $160 for nonmembers of NMEA. Presenters Form
One of the most exciting evenings of the NMEA conference is the annual auction. As the host of this year's conference, NYSMEA is seeking assistance from the Education, Marine and New York Communities. We are in need of new or used, marine-related items that can be auctioned so that we can meet our goal of $10,000. All proceeds from the auction are used to support future marine education efforts, primarily as scholarships.
This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your support for marine education while promoting your organization to over 500 participants. All donating organizations will be recognized during the event.
Donations may be mailed to: Keira Lam or please feel free to contact Meghan Marrero by phone or by email at mmarrero@signalsofspring.net to arrange pick-up or delivery. As NMEA is a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible and a receipt for your donation will be provided. Donation Form
