The   Catskill  Watershed  Corporation  (CWC)  is  accepting  Watershed
Education  Grant  proposals  from  schools and non-profit organizations
serving Pre-K through 12th grade audiences and teachers in the New York
City  West-of-Hudson (WOH) Watershed and/or within the five boroughs of
New  York  City.  This  program  is offered in partnership with the NYC
Department of Environmental Protection.

Open to teachers of all disciplines in grades 9-12, nationwide, the Toyota International Teacher Program offers a fully-funded, 12-day professional development experience in Japan . Sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, USA , the program will take place June 22 - July 7, 2007 and provide 40 educators with an opportunity to bring ancient and modern Japan back to their classrooms. Participants will travel through Tokyo , Nagoya , Kyoto and surrounding rural areas examining the history, education system, environment and industry of Japan . Since 1999, groups of American educators have journeyed annually to Japan to explore the country’s history, educational system, environment and technology.  They have returned with renewed commitment as teachers and with fresh ideas for sharing first hand experiences and international perspectives with their students, colleagues and communities.

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP).  Sponsored by
the Office of Naval Research (ONR), SEAP is an eight week summer
research opportunity at participating ONR laboratories for high school students.
Students must have completed at least grade nine, be 16 years of age for
most Laboratories, and be a U.S. citizen. A graduating senior is
eligible to apply. The stipend for the summer program is $1,500 for new students;
$1,550 for returning students. The application is currently open and

DIRECTOR JL SCOTT MARINE EDUCATION / TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION

The Department of Coastal Sciences, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, The University of Southern Mississippi, invites applicants for a director/tenure-track faculty position at the ASSISTANT to FULL PROFESSOR level in MARINE SCIENCE EDUCATION. The position is approximately 50% as director of the JL SCOTT MARINE EDUCATION CENTER and 50% as member of the faculty of the department of coastal sciences. Anticipated start date is summer to fall 2007.
The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate or equivalent, in a marine-related discipline and have demonstrated a strong scholarly interest in marine science education, research and outreach. As the director of the MARINE EDUCATION CENTER , the individual will provide leadership and direction for the USM-GCRL JL Scott Marine Education Center. As a tenure-track member of the faculty of the department of coastal sciences, the successful candidate will develop a strong educational research program that includes mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. graduate students and publishing in peer-reviewed outlets.
The director will foster a vision for marine education focusing on K-12 programs, pre-college teacher professional development programs and opportunities for mature, life-long learners.  The incumbent must have a willingness to be part of the higher education community that supports development of science teacher education at the state and federal level.  The director will be able to work creatively and effectively with students, faculty, staff and other educators.  The candidate must be an excellent communicator and possess both verbal and written skills with the ability to speak publicly and give presentations. 
The successful candidate will have a record or demonstrate exceptional promise of obtaining extramural funding.  The successful candidate will be expected to maintain and expand the MEC’s nationally-recognized, externally-funded research, education and outreach programs.
