| SUBMIT A VIDEO TO THE SMITHSONIAN OCEAN HALL This September the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History will inaugurate the Ocean Hall, the largest permanent exhibit in the museum. As part of the floor exhibit, there will be two kiosks with interactive screens that display video and graphic content relating to ocean literacy. The kiosks are informal-learning, touch-screen media centers. Visitors will be able to choose videos from four categories: Ocean News, Ocean Life, Ocean Science and Technology and Recent Discoveries. In addition, there will be satellite kiosks around the country. For the grand opening in September, there will be five kiosks hosted by the Coastal Ecosystem Learning Centers. Ultimately, Smithsonian hopes to have a satellite kiosk in each state. Smithsonian estimates 7 million visitors annually to the Ocean Hall. With a satellite kiosk in every State, they estimate a potential viewing audience of 30 million. The content for the Ocean Today Kiosk will be 1-3 minute videos or image files. It is a four part process: 1. Submit story proposal 2. Submit draft treatment description 3. Submit final treatment with rough-cut video or imagery 4. Submit final product To ensure contributors do not waste time or money, each of these steps will be evaluated by the editorial review board for approval or recommendations to bring it into the content guidelines. All submissions should comply with the procedures and requirements outlined in the Contributor Kits found at http://www2.nos.noaa.gov/oceannewskiosk/background_docs.html If you have specific questions, contact Bob Freeman at robert.freeman@navy.mil, or 202-762-0619. ******************************************************************** |

| Hi
SWMEA and NMEA, Section F of the Strategic Plan is regarding Education and Outreach. I encourage each of you to look it over and make suggestions as multiple agencies are involved and mentioned as integrated partners. Section 1a was the creation of a comprehensive ocean and coastal information web portal for the state of California. This led to the creation of the Thank You Ocean website and the large multimedia campaign that launched in Fall 2006!!! www.thankyouocean.org To see the ads, bookmarks, posters, web banners and workshop notes we created in a large collaboration and that are now all around the state of California go to: http://www.thankyouocean.org/oca_toolkit ******************************************************************** |
