Estuaries:  Sustaining the Sea

NYSMEA has again received a grant from the ERM Foundation to fund the
South Shore Estuary learning Facilitator (sSELF)Program

We are happy to report that NYSMEA has again received the South Shore Estuary Learning Facilitator (sSELF) grant from the ERM Foundation for calendar year 2009. The program, run in cooperation with the 
South Shore Estuary Reserve Office,
 is designed to train students and community members to do basic testing of various en
vironmental parameters on a regular basis. Details

 Lou Siegel, the creator of the program will give a presentation on the program
 on Saturday , February 7th,  12:00 Noon
at Dowling College in Oakdale
Representatives of groups, interested in conducting biweekly measurements
of chemical and physical parameters in the waters of the South Shore Estuary Reserve are
 invited to a 3 hours workshop.

Help Save the New York Aquarium!

Please go to the Wildlife Conservation Society’s website  http://capwiz.com/wcs/issues/alert/?alertid=12198681&type=ML  and complete the online petition.  A copy of the petition suitable for teachers to use at schools can be mailed back to Bob Cummings.. Anyone can sign, even students.  We only ask that the students put their names and the name of their school.  We do not want their personal information, but adults can fill it out completely.  Also please send a copy of our  “Dear Friend” letter to anyone who you feel might be of assistance.  For those people filling out the hard copy of the petition, we would need to have them by mid-February.  Thank you!
