Trout in the Classroom Coordinator
Trout Unlimited (TU), a national non-profit conservation
organization dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring trout and
salmon fisheries, seeks a talented and self-motivated individual to run its
conservation education program, Trout in the Classroom.
The purpose of Trout in the Classroom is to teach K-12 students the
importance of water quality, aquatic biology, and watershed management through
the engaging and multidisciplinary task of raising trout from eggs to
fingerlings. The coordinator will be
responsible for developing educational resources for teachers and students, serving
as a liaison between teachers, volunteers, and state agency professionals, and
managing the expansion of the program.
Position requires: providing
technical assistance to teachers and volunteers; coordinating and facilitating
trainings; developing curricula and other media resources; and helping to
prepare foundation reports and proposals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes and coordinates the activities of
volunteers, state agency professionals, other non-profit staff who are
helping promote and improve the program.
- Develops and pilots training module for
teachers and TU volunteers on program implementation and educational opportunities.
- Designs and conducts evaluation measures to
demonstrate program impact on student conservation knowledge.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers and TU
volunteers who are interested in the program.
- Assists and/or participates in production of instructional
video.
- Coordinates field trips for participating
schools at the end of the school year.
- Provides content for and oversees new website
design.
- Writes, prepares, and disseminates brochures
and newsletters and gains media exposure for the program.
- Helps to prepare foundation reports and
proposals.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as
needed.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree, preferably in ecology, science
or education.
- Experience with education in traditional and
non-traditional settings.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication
skills.
- Willingness to work some non-traditional hours
and weekends as required.
- Complete fluency in Microsoft Office suite of
applications and use of the internet.
- Ability to do rudimentary desktop design of
newsletters and brochures and to supervise the work of contractors on
larger projects.
- Knowledge of institutional fundraising is
helpful but not required.
- Team player with a positive attitude, a sense
of humor, and excellent social skills.
Position is based in
