NOAA Ocean Explorers:
We are proud to announce that the "New Zealand American Submarine Ring
of Fire 2005" site has launched. This begins the 2005 field season,
with seven additional signature expeditions to follow. This exploration
began over the weekend and is made up of an international team of
scientists. They will visit submarine volcanoes along Kermadec Arc
using the Pisces IV and V submersibles. The volcanoes chosen show
evidence of having vigorous seafloor hot springs. Only time will tell
what discoveries will be made. Please visit the site at
http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/explorations/05fire/welcome.html and
remember to check for the lesson plans for students in Grades 5-12
developed for this expedition.
